Brigid Perseveres

We return again to our determined goddess Brigid, trying to overcome the memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease. The problems facing Brigid are primarily due to the buildup of two abnormal structures in the brain: amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, which damage and kill neurons that are responsible for processing and storing information. Once the neurons are lost, the encoded memories are also lost.

The good news is that a relatively new drug on the market, Leqembi® (Lecanemab), has the ability to bind to amyloid-beta proteins. These proteins help the immune system recognize and clear the plaques from the brain. While Leqembi® cannot restore damaged neurons, research is ongoing to develop treatments that could potentially regererate or restore lost cognitive functions.

As you can see from the painting, Brigid has overcome the dark colors representing the plaques and tangles that wrapped around her previously by claiming her eternal form for the protection of the world around her.
