Leaving Bolivar Roads

Leaving Bolivar Roads
36X24

This painting captures a serene yet industrious scene at the entrance to Galveston bay, viewed from the east end of Galveston Island. In the foreground, two seagulls glide gracefully above the water, their wings outstretched and eyes are focused on the waves below in search of fish.

Farther away an oil tanker moves steadily through the water. The tanker is a massive structure painted dark blue. Its large hull displaces the water, creating gentle waves that ripple outwards.

The overall atmosphere is calm due to the haze of the sea and the sky, yet the presence of the tanker hints at the bustling maritime activity that is a part of this coastal landscape.
