The soul that has passed into the unitive way has a constant sense of the presence of God. This knowledge of God is direct and not dependent on the mirror of the parables or the mysteries of Christ. The journey from purgation through illumination and finally to a unitive state with God is not a set of discrete passages from one state to another. Rather it is a process of progress and regress driven by the theological virtues of faith, hope; and itâs ultimately achieved through the virtue of love â the bond of perfection.
